Search: WWW (2019) came to a finale, and it’s truly a beauty from the filming, cinematography, music, and wardrobe. It’s quirky, fun, and full of real-life concerns and taboos. This drama pushes the boundaries from realities to desires in both work and relationships. I would love to recommend this drama to everyone. It’s easily made my top 5 dramas of all time.

This drama centers around Bae Ta Mi “Tammy” (Im Soo Jung) a strong independent woman who seems to have it all except for love. Park Mo Geon “Morgan” ( Jang Ki Young) a video game music producer who lived in Australia for most of his life. Cha Hyun “Scarlett” (Lee Da Hee), a headstrong woman with a soft heart. They all deal with their demons, shortcoming, and strengths. Each Character deals with several problems inside and outside of work. There are various amazing characters in this drama that all play an essential role. Of, course, there is romance, and a whole lot of it too! We get to see different types of love and relationships. Everyone is willing to accept various types of lovers.

Relationships in the Drama:
The issue of “does age matter in a relationship?” comes up frequently at the beginning with Tammy and Morgan. Tammy deals with her internal struggle of feeling as a roadblock to Morgan, considering their age gap and life experiences. Another pending issue discussed is, ” Is marriage important and necessary to validate love between two people?” However, I would like to state that the idea of not wanting to get married is loosely valid through Tammy. Who opposes the concept of marriage, yet she wants to end the relationship because they can walk away from each other at any moment since they are not married. The discussion is never genuinely resolved between Morgan and Tammy. What will become of this relationship? You must watch! No spoilers! The relationship from my perspective has issues solely because they internally struggle with their fear of being abandoned.

The relationship that I find endearing is Scarlett and Seol Ji Hwan(Lee Jae Wook). They meet in the most ridiculous way possible. The foreshadowing of their encounter is, by far the most intriguing to me. He’s a small-time actor who is a genius in Scarlett’s eyes. She absolutely is infatuated with him regardless of their social status. He’s been an actor for ten years and has no connections. The problem here is distinguishing fans from lovers. I love the issue being something so simple instead of Seol Ji Hwan life and career seen as a problem.

*opted out of including the arrange marriage since it is a cliche at this point in dramas although I love the outcome

Filming and Cinematography:
The filming is excellent and has a lot of different angles fitting to each character’s mood. It helps the audience feel the distance, angst, and distortion of reality. The cinematography is stunning. It’s visually appealing, and the colors used to reflect character emotions.

What’s to love about the Drama:
The drama has a great story. It is exciting and refreshing as it’s based in the world of the internet. There is a lot of taboos discussed that brings forth an interesting topic of how society can make or break a relationship with its social constructs. That ultimately, we implement ourselves. We see strong female characters throughout the drama who make difficult decisions that affect their life personally outside of work as well. The strong female characters have strength in their work and career. However, they all seem to lack how to be loved and have difficulties accepting they can also have love. Overall, its a drama you must watch to experience the greatness, not even a post could describe!

Taboos discussed in the drama:
A huge and clear taboo is the age gap between Morgan and Tammy. Now, there seems to be a more prominent stigma with a woman being older in the relationships. It is not as widely accepted as when a man is older. Not only that, but Tammy clearly is in a higher position and presumably more financially able than Morgan and vis Versa with Scarlet regarding a higher position than her lover. So, the drama does push the boundaries with their taboos, and I love every second of it. Secondly, the topic of adoption and being adopted, that’s a huge taboo in Korea. It’s rarely discussed in dramas, and many Koreans are not open to the idea of adoption. I love how the drama presented this topic. Lastly, the concept of marriage is heavily prevalent in the drama. I love how they deal with this taboo bringing forth several ideas and arguments from Tammy and Morgan.

Might contain spoilers, read after watching the drama
Park Morgan and Tammy:
Park Morgan is an interesting character. He is more open as he grew up in Australia. It’s very rare to see a free and laid back male character like him. He is also very hurt. He deals with the trauma of being abandoned and wanting to be loved. It’s evident he has a loving family, yet he still struggles with being left as a child. That fear is present and clear as he tries hard to make things work with Tammy.

Tammy’s character isn’t as clear as the rest. We don’t get a backstory on Tammy further than her two past relationships which she ended herself. There is a lot of mystery as to why she is so scared of the future. She is clearly hurt and has personal issues, which she continually throws in her relationship. Even when Morgan accepts everything, she still goes into a spiral of inconsistency with her emotions. The steam of her trauma and fears is not very clear. We can only conclude she fears the future. I would love to see the second season of this drama being produced in the near future.
